Counted Thread is a free page published by PaintedApp, LLC ("we"). By using it you agree to these terms. They are short because the page asks little of you and promises little more than it shows.
What the page is
Counted Thread reduces a photograph to a number of colours you set, matches each to a DMC six-strand embroidery floss from a published colour table using the CIEDE2000 colour-difference formula, and draws the result as a counted chart with a legend and pages to print. A floss colour on a screen is an approximation of dyed thread: dye lots vary, screens differ, and thread on cloth reads differently from light. The chart is a guide to stitching, and it makes no promise about how the finished piece will look.
DMC
DMC is a trademark of its owner. The floss numbers and names are used here only to say which thread a symbol means. Counted Thread is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by DMC, and it sells no thread.
Your photograph and your chart
Use a photograph you have the right to use. We never receive it, and we claim no rights in it or in the chart and files you make from it.
Printing
The print file is drawn at the true size of the cloth only when it is printed at 100%, or "Actual size", with no scaling. Every page carries a 50 mm square for that reason: measure it before you stitch from the page.
No charge, no account
The page is free and asks for no account and no payment. We may change it, move it or take it down at any time, without notice.
The code and the data
The page's source code is released under the MIT licence. The floss colour data is craft-color-codes by MakeBead, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. The sample photograph is by Meredith Bannan, who released it into the public domain, via Wikimedia Commons. Every source and licence is listed in sources.json.
No warranty
The page is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Its receipts show where it agrees with its published sources and by how much; they are not a guarantee.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, PaintedApp, LLC is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of the page or of anything made with it, including thread or cloth bought on a chart's advice.
